I map release contents before making a format comparison.
A familiar album title can hide a different mix, a new recording or a missing group of tracks. I bring those distinctions together so the edition on a shopping page is easier to understand.
What this publication does
A disc format is only part of the choice.
An audio Blu-ray and a concert film may carry the same title while containing different programmes. Two box sizes can include the same music; two editions of one album may not.
I compare documented release information and identify which recordings and extras belong to which edition. This is not a listening-test publication, a pressing appraisal or a claim about how a master sounds.
Reading a release
Follow the recording, then the package.
Identify the programme
Distinguish an original album, a live performance, a soundtrack score and additional archive material.
Separate mix from recording
A remix, a remaster and a newly recorded performance are different kinds of change.
Keep the purchase condition attached
Say when a bonus disc or recording belongs to a particular bundle, format or seller.
Have a clearer track or edition source?
Send the page and the label, artist or retailer information showing the difference. A specific track or catalogue detail is more useful than a general rating.
